Poland – The scientific community and the field of nuclear energy have lost a titan with the passing of Professor Andrzej Strupczewski on February 18, 2025, at the age of 88.

Professor Strupczewski, a renowned expert in nuclear safety, was instrumental in the development of Poland's MARIA reactor, which marked a historic milestone in the country’s nuclear energy journey. His dedication to advancing nuclear science earned him recognition not only in Poland but also on the international stage, where he worked closely with organizations like the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the European Commission.

Throughout his career, Professor Strupczewski worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of nuclear reactors worldwide. His achievements in reactor design and safety, particularly his contributions to the EWA reactor and the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster, will leave a lasting legacy in the energy sector.
