Chauncy Glover, Beloved LA News Anchor, Passes Away at 39, Leaving a Legacy of Mentorship and Dedication
Los Angeles, California – Chauncy Glover, a cherished news anchor at KCAL and KCBS, tragically passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 39.
Glover was found unresponsive at his home, and despite efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His cause of death has been determined to be accidental, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
Known for his warmth and dedication, Glover had a significant impact on the news industry and his community. He was a three-time News Emmy winner and co-anchored the 5 and 11 p.m. newscasts at KCAL alongside Pat Harvey, as well as the 8 and 10 p.m. newscasts with Suzie Suh.
Born on July 10, 1985, in Athens, Alabama, Glover's journey into journalism began at the age of 5 when his father built him a mini "anchor desk" for his newscasts. He went on to study broadcast journalism, music, and theater at Troy University in Alabama.
Throughout his career, Glover was not only known for his reporting but also for his mentorship through The Chauncy Glover Project, which supported teenage boys in Detroit. His efforts were recognized by President Obama and My Brother’s Keeper for his dedication to mentoring youth.
On social media, tributes have poured in. "Rest easy," wrote Alex Armen Yan, while Faye Johnson shared, "This man was a wonderful mentor to many young black men."
Glover’s family released a statement expressing their deep sorrow: “Chauncy was more than a son and brother – he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community. His compassion and dedication to helping others changed countless lives.”
He is survived by his family, who will always carry his memory and the positive impact he made on so many.
